carton – cartoon
[slightly different pronunciation]
The word “cartoon” is longer than the word “carton” both in its spelling and in its (end) vowel sound.
“Carton” (with a single ‘o’) is ‘a light cardboard or plastic box or container for holding goods (things)’,
e.g.
Soap cakes are packed in cartons when they are delivered from the factory to the shops.
He bought a carton of milk and a carton of popcorn.
“Cartoon” is ‘a funny drawing dealing with the present political or other important matters; usually printed in the newspapers, magazines, etc.; a model drawing or painting’; and an “Animated cartoon or cartoon” is ‘a film (movie) made by photographing a series of funny drawings’,
e.g.
Most newspapers have political cartoons in them.
The most famous of all the animated cartoon (films) are ‘Tom and Jerry’ and ‘Donald Duck’.
