Some common species (kinds) are: common carp, crucian carp, grass carp, silver carp, bighead carp; koi, etc.

common carp: grows to 5 feet in length and weighs about 35 kg.

Koi or koi carp is the national fish of Japan.

Goldfish and koi carp are the most popular pond/aquarium (pet) fish.

Carp is also a popular sport fish; anglers (= people who use fishing rods to catch fish) love to catch the biggest of the carp.

On average, 4 million metric tonnes of carp are eaten by people all over the world!

These fish are believed to live for long time in muddy waters or waters without much oxygen.

On the other hand, in some parts of the world, carp are considered a pest because of their habit of eating water plants at the bottom level, killing the plants or disturbing the other fish that share the same water.
