call boy:

Note: This term has become out-dated as there are more convenient ways of sending messages or answering phone available.
a call boy

a young man whose job is to tell (remind) actors when it is time to go onto the stage or on to the sets of a film;

a young man or boy who passes on the messages of a captain of a ship to the engineer, helmsman, etc. on a ship;

a boy whose job is to wait to answer phone calls of his employer, and when got a call, goes to the master and informs;

a bell boy,

e.g.

A call boy on film shooting sets needs to be ever patient because actors are notorious for their bad moods.

The Captain of the ship sent a message to the helmsman by a call boy.

After the advent of mobile phones, there is hardly any use for the call boys in the offices; anybody can be in touch with others at a press of a button!

a callboy/a male prostitute

 

Without space between the two words — callboy — is a young man who has sex for money and can be engaged/hired by a telephone call, as a ‘call girl’; a gigolo; a hustler; a rentboy; a male prostitute.
