a kind of bird – song bird related to finches – the general name of about 37 species (kinds) plus some other similar species; about 5 inches in length and 20 grams in weight (the size and weight different from species to species); feeds on seeds; in different colours , with a short, thick beak (bill) (=bone-like mouth part without teeth); found in Eurasia, Northern Africa, spreading into India
