a person who is a follower of Buddhism, a religion founded by Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha), in Nepal about 400 BC,

some ordinary Buddhists

e.g.

Aung San Suu Kyi, the Burmese Opposition political activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner, is a Buddhist.

Not all Buddhists are monks; there are common people who lead their lives normally, but with Buddhism as their religion, who are commonly referred to as ‘lay Buddhists.

The Tibetan Buddhists are fighting for their freedom from the Chinese rule.

Note: ‘Buddhist’ is more commonly used as an adjective to refer to people or things that are related to Buddhists and Buddhism, e.g. ‘Buddhist temples’, ‘Buddhist philosophy’, ‘Buddhist monks’, etc.
