bruiser:

(plural: ‘bruisers‘; pronunciation: the letters ‘brui’ are said with a long ‘u’ sound as in “brood“)

‘bruise’ = a minor injury to a muscle or bone without the skin on it breaking, usually seen by the blue or black colour of the skin, and feels tender to touch and painful for some days

a big rough & tough strong man, especially a brawler, bully or boxer, who is known to have seen some bloody fights and wins,

a typical bruiser

e.g.

Billy was a gambler and was a known bruiser in his day.

Betty runs a pub and knows how to handle bruisers and cheats.

The police have tough time controlling the menace of bruisers in the public places.

‘Bruiser’ is also used for the boxer breed of dog.
