(plural: ‘bricklayers‘; pronunciation: ‘brick…layer’)

‘to lay’ = ‘to put or keep something in a particular position’, e.g. ‘Who lays the table for lunch?’  ’Birds lay eggs.’  ’He laid his arm on my shoulder.’
