a person who makes round holes as a job, especially an assistant carpenter,

a borer (person) boring holes in a piece of wood with a bore (a tool)

e.g.

Every senior carpenter of the past used to have a borer to make holes in the planks or reapers to be joined or attached.

 

The durability of a piece of wooden furniture depends more on the borer who must make neat holes at exact places so that the joints fit in tight and well.

Note: ‘Borer’ is more commonly used to refer to an insect and insect larva, such as ‘cotton borer’, ‘wood borer’, ‘ash borer’, etc.
