e.g.

The minister for agriculture, along with a number of his boosters, has toured the flood effected areas to estimate the corp damage and also to assure the farmers of the government’s commitment to help them.

There are surveillance cameras even in small shops to discourage boosters that steal things on display.

A ‘booster’ is more commonly used to refer to ‘an apparatus/device/tool that helps to increase force, power or pressure in something, such as an engine’, especially those used in space crafts — rackets that go into space, etc. and a ‘substance that increases the effectiveness of some drug’.
A ‘booster bag’ is a kind of bag used by boosters(shoplifters) to escape security systems.
