a kind of insect – ‘fly’ group – shiny metallic blue (also green and black) in colour; grows to 10 to 12 mm in length; 1100 species found all over the world

a blowfly

It is a very harmful insect to humans and animals. It is very difficult to get rid of blowflies.

A blowfly lays its eggs in rotting flesh or excrement (shit) on which the hatched larvae feed and grow.

Dirty places are the best suited places for it, and from there it spreads diseases.

It is estimated that “Sheep blowfly” causes the sheep industry in Australia more than $ 150 million a year in losses by spreading a disease called ‘myiasis’ in sheep.
