(plural: ‘blasphemers‘; pronunciation: the letters ‘ph’ are said with an ‘f’ sound as in “father”, and the letter ‘e’ after ‘ph’ has a long sound as in “bee”)

‘blasphemy’ = the act of showing disrespect to God and things related to God, in speech and/or writings

a person who has no respect for God and things related to God, and who speaks of God without respect and even uses bad language about God and religious matters; a swearer,

Writer Salman Rushdie was accused of being a blasphemer and a Fatwa (an order imposing death sentence) was issued by the Iranian religious leader Ayotallah Khomeini in 1989.
