a blacksmith busy at his forge

a metal worker/artisan who makes and repairs things of iron at a furnace, using an anvil and hammer;

a person who makes, fits and repairs horseshoes on horses; a farrier,

a blacksmith/farrier/horse-shoer, fixing a horse-shoe on a horse

e.g.

In the past, there used to be a blacksmith in every village, making and repairing iron implements of the farmers and other workers.

During the times of war, blacksmiths were in great demand in every civilisation of the past.

Some blacksmiths were famous for their skill in making excellent swords that were meant for the royal gentry.

Note: ‘Blacksmith’ is also used to refer to a kind of small dark-coloured fish originally found in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
