Apart from other common meanings/definitions…

a black belt in a fighting stance

 

a person who holds a high rank in martial arts, such as karate, judo, etc., and is given a black cotton belt that is tied around his/her waist to show others that he/she is a martial artist of high degree,

 

a group of female black belts

e.g.

Don’t mess with her; she’s a judo black belt.

 

I had my karate lessons from a 3rd degree black belt.

Note: In the present martial art world, different styles of schools use different coloured belts to show the level or degree of achievement of their students.
