beside  –  besides

[the same pronunciation, except ‘besides’ has an additional ‘s’ end sound]

Beside” means ‘by the side of; close to; in comparison with’,

(mum sat beside me)
(mum sat beside me)

e.g.

Come and sit beside me.

Besides” means ‘in addition; moreover; also’,

two besides three of his own
two besides three of his own

e.g.

He has to work overtime; he has three children of his own besides two of his brother’s (children).
