berth – birth
[‘berth’ has the same sound as ‘birth' -- the 'e' in 'berth' and the 'i' in 'birth' rhyme with the 'u' in "hurt"]
“Berth” means ‘a place for the passengers to sleep on a train or ship; a place in a harbour where a ship can be tied safely’,
e.g.
I was unable to find a berth on the train last night, and so had to travel sitting.
It’s hard to find a safe berth for big ships in busy ports.
“Birth” means ‘the act of being born; origin; start of a new thing’,
e.g.
She gave birth to a male child.
He is of noble birth!
