The most common meaning is ‘a kitchen device to mix egg yolk, etc. in cooking’, and any other instrument that is used for beating something, e.g. an egg beater, a carpet or rug beater.
Note: In the game of basketball, a ‘buzzer beater’ is a shot, not a player, that is taken just seconds before the final end-of-game bell or buzzer sounds.
