beagle
(pronunciation: the letters ‘bea’ rhyme with the word “bee” and the letter ‘g’ is said with a ‘g’ sound as in “gun”)
a beagle sniffing for illicit goods
a kind of dog – medium-sized hound, with a muscular body of medium length, and relatively short legs and long ears; size: 13 to 16 inches at the shoulder and weighs 8 to 16 Kg.; short smooth hair (coat); modern breed originally came from Britain, now found all over the world
It is a popular hunting dog used in hunting rabbits, hares and some other small animals.
It has a keen (very good) sense of smell, and used not only in hunting but also in finding out the prohibited agricultural products (food related items) being smuggled into countries through airports, especially in the USA.
Because of its small size and gentle behaviour, this dog has become a popular pet dog with the people, particularly with families having young children.
