basset
a basset
(also basset hound) a kind of dog – with a long body, smooth short hair (coat), short stubby legs and large drooping (hanging in loose folds) ears; 13 to 15 inches (36 to 38 cm) in height and twice as long; weighs about 45 Kg.; lives for ten years on average; originally from Europe, but now found all over the world
Its drooping ears and the loose skin folds around the neck (dewlap) make it look sad and sometimes as if it were begging. It is one of the popular pet dogs in the present world. It was a cross between the blood hound and Basset Artisien Normand (kinds of European dogs), originally bred to hunt foxes, badgers. But now used for hunting rabbits.
Bassets have the longest ears of all dogs.
