baron – barren
[‘baron’ has the same pronunciation as ‘barren’]
“Baron” in Britain is ‘the title of a nobleman of a certain rank’, and in America, it is ‘a businessman or businesswoman of great power and importance’,
e.g.
The conference was attended by many Lords and barons of England.
An oil baron from the US has donated a large sum of money to the World Wild Life Fund.
“Barren” means ‘(of land, female of human, animal, plant) with no fertility, i.e. not having the capacity to produce the young; useless’,
e.g.
Most barren lands are being converted into fertile lands by using modern irrigation methods.
