(shortened form: ‘Bn.’; plural: ‘barons‘)

In British usage, the wife or widow of a baron or any woman of high social rank of her own is called a ‘baroness’.

(British English)  a title of a nobleman with the lowest rank in the House of Lords; and also a nobleman of the lowest rank in Japanese society;

(American English) a very rich, important and powerful businessman

*A ‘peer’, in this context, is a noble man of high social rank; and a ‘peeress’ is a noble woman of high social rank.

‘Baron’ is also used for a cut of beef (cow or ox meat).
