a bankrupt, lost everything

a person who is unable to pay his/her business debts because his/her business did not do well, i.e. he/she has made great losses in the business and, as a result, cannot pay the people he/she borrowed money from, which is legally called ‘going or gone bankrupt or bankruptcy’; a broke;

a person who does not have a particular quality, or something that he/she needs very badly,

e.g.

When his movie did not run well, the producer committed suicide because he could not bear the thought of being called a bankrupt!

He is an intellectual bankrupt, i.e. he does not have any education or does have any knowledge in the academic subjects.

Note: ‘Bankrupt’ is more commonly used as an adjective to refer to someone or some business that has lost everything and is unable to clear debts, e.g. Our government does not want to follow the same bankrupt foreign policy. And ‘bankrupt’ is also used as a verb, e.g. She tried to bankrupt her credibility to hush up the scandal her husband got himself into.
Note: ‘Bankruptcy’, with plural form ‘bankruptcies’, is a condition or state of someone being bankrupt.
