Some bandits in the folk lore are made heroes as they stole from the rich and gave away to the poor, like bandits Robin Hood and Zorro!

A “one-armed bandit” is not a person but a gambling machine with which people can gamble. These machines are called ‘one-armed bandits’ because each one is operated by a lever by its side that looks like an arm, and like a bandit, it robs the gamblers of their money. The other names by which this machine is called are: ‘slot machine’, ‘slot’, ‘fruit machine’, ‘poker machine’ or ‘pokie’!

Return to “brigand“.
