band:

(plural: ‘bands‘)

Apart from other equally common meanings…

A group word for people or animals, e.g. ‘a band of outlaws’, ‘a band of supports’, ‘a band of horses’, etc.

a military band

a group of musicians;

a group of people formed for some common purpose and often with a leader,

a group of criminals, such as thieves or outlaws,

(in Canada) a group of organized community recognised by the government of Canada, also known as ‘First Nation’,

a band (of musicians)

e.g.

There is a new band (of musicians) playing at Anne’s birthday party this evening. Do you want to join us?

Once she established herself as a singer, she joined a pop band and became even more popular.

The President and his band (of supporters) are visiting every State to gather public opinion of the new healthcare law.
