a kind of animal – mammal – medium sized burrowing animal related to weasels with black and white striped face, broad back, thick short legs and long claws on the front feet; 13-31 inches (33 -79 cm) long with a short tail measuring 4-7 inches (10-18 cm) with an average weight 17 Kg.; most active at night (nocturnal); mostly meat-eating but can eat fruit and roots

Special Features:
It is the state animal of Wisconsin, one of the States of the USA.

Its hair is used for making shaving and painting brushes, and in garments.

Its meat is eaten in most parts of the world.

In Australia the wombat and the bandicoot are called ‘badger’.

It is popular in English fiction; may writers feature it in their stories.
