ascent — assent
[the same pronunciation as in ‘assent’]
“Ascent” is ‘the act of going or moving upwards or to a higher position from a lower position; an upward slope’,

- (a steep ascent)
e.g.
The mountaineers made a successful ascent to the peak of the mountain.
“Assent” is ‘to agree to an idea, suggestion, etc.’,

- (to assent to live)
e.g.
She will not assent to my suggestion.
[i.e. she will not say ‘yes’ to my suggestion]
