a class (group) name given to any insect-like animal with eight legs and without wings; soft-bodied without backbone; there are 100,000 species which include spiders, scorpions, harvestmen, ticks and mites; found all over the world

‘Arachnophobia’ is the abnormal fear of spiders and other arachnids, and an ‘arachnophobe’ is a person who is afraid of spiders and other arachnids.
