appraise — apprise (also apprize)
[slightly different middle vowel sound]
“Appraise” means ‘to estimate or evaluate; to judge the worth, quality, value, nature of something or somebody’,
e.g.
She carefully appraised the damage done to her reputation before deciding to go to the court of law.
“Apprise” means ‘to inform somebody of something’, [This word is used mostly in passive voice form, and is becoming rare.]
e.g.
He apprised (apprized) her of his decision not to join her Party.

The select teachers were apprised of their appointment as judges to appraise the students’ work.
