apposition — opposition
“Apposition” (in grammar), the letter ‘a’ rhymes with the letter ‘a’ in “apple”, is a word or phrase added to explain or describe another word or phrase in a sentence’,
e.g.
The worker, a poor man, found life difficult after he had lost his right hand in an accident.
[“A poor man” in the example sentence is in apposition (giving some extra information about) to the ‘the worker’]
“opposition”, the letter ‘o’ rhymes with the letter ‘o’ in “on”, means ‘the act of being opposite in ideas, opinions, etc.; the act of fighting against;
(mostly with a capital “O”) the political party that is against the government (the ruling party)’,
e.g.
The workers placed themselves in opposition to their employer on the question of medical benefits.
[i.e. the workers’ demands were entirely different from the employer’s proposals; they did not accept the employer’s offer of some alternative way]
The Opposition (party) demanded explanation from the government for delaying the construction of the hospital.
