apposite — opposite
“Apposite” means ‘very suitable to or well chosen, appropriate for the present condition, purpose or occasion’,
This adjective is applied mainly to words, statements and illustrations used in speeches and writings.
e.g.
The speaker made some apposite remarks in support of his statement.
“Opposite” means ‘facing front to front; totally different from; contrary to something or someone’,
e.g.
We live opposite the railway station. [not exactly ‘in front of’ – there is a road or a lane between our house and the railway station]
