(‘angora cat’, ‘angora goat’, ‘angora rabbit’)

Any of the animals – cat, goat or rabbit – with long silky hair; all these animals originated from a region called Ankara, Asia Minor, the present day Turkey (actually the old name of Ankara, the capital city, but now raised for their hair in almost all the countries:

Angora Cat – or Turkish Angora is a breed of cat, bred for its beautiful silky long hair (mohair)

Angora goat – originated in the region of Ankara in the present day Turkey; it has the best hair (mohair) and is bred for this purpose; it is smaller than other goats and sheep

 

an angora rabbit

Angora rabbit – native to the island of Madeira, an island in the Atlantic Ocean near Morocco in Africa, but brought into the wool trade from Ankara in present Turkey; bred for its fine hair, called ‘angora wool’ or ‘angora fibre’, all over the world.
