anecdote — antidote
There are several instances where even the experienced writers confuse these words. So, beware of them whenever you use them!
“Anecdote” is ‘a short story about a real person or event mentioned in a long story or speech’,
e.g.
The people in our village delight in the anecdotes about our temple priest, i.e. people tell short stories, incidents that actually happened or made up, about how good he is, how he has solved somebody’s problem, how well he performs religious ceremonies, etc.
“Antidote” is ‘a substance (medicine) used to counteract the effects of a disease or poison’,
e.g.
This herbal medicine contains antidote to snake poison.
