analyst   —   annalist

“Analyst” is ‘a person who analyses materials, especially chemical materials; a person who is an expert in making analyses’,

e.g.

My cousin is a chemical analyst.

“Annalist” is ‘a person who writes or keeps records of history, historical events, discoveries, etc., which are called ‘annals’,

e.g.

Annalists do not make history; they just keep records of it.
