all ways   —   always

All ways” (two words with a double ‘l’) is a phrase used in the sense of ‘every possible way or all possible methods’

e.g.

All ways have been tried to find the fault in the system.

(i.e. tried in every possible way)

This computer was tested in all ways.

Always” (one word with a single ‘l’) is an adverb, meaning ‘at all times, regularly, throughout a period of time, etc.’’,

e.g.

They nearly always go to the park in the evening.

Our tutor always comes at 8 O’clock.

Common Errors:

1.  {Why don’t you go and see your old friend?} He always lives at the same address in the city.  [wrong]

{Why don’t you go and see your old friend?} He still lives at the same address in the city.   [right]

2.  Mother died a long time ago, but her good deeds are always alive.  [wrong]

Mother died a long time ago, but her good deeds are still alive. [right]

3.  She has always the feeling that he likes her dancing.  [wrong]

She always has the feeling that he likes her dancing.  [right]

4.  Strangers will be always welcome in this part of the town.  [wrong]

Strangers will always be welcome in this part of the town.  [right]
