alcoholic:

(plural: ‘alcoholics‘; pronunciation: the letters ‘c’ and ‘c’ are said with a ‘k’ sound as in “king”)

a typical alcoholic

a person who gets into the habit of drinking too much alcohol (brandy, whiskey, etc.) and is unable to give up the habit though it damages his/her health and wealth, and cannot live without drinking, and tries to do anything to get some money to buy some drink;

a boozer; a drinker; a hard drinker,

an alcoholic, cannot give up the habit and cannot bear the pathetic condition he is in

e.g.

An alcoholic, like any other addict, is a danger to his/her family, friends and the society as he/she tends to commit crimes in a drunken condition or to get money to get into a drunken condition!

 

There are several rehabilitation centres where an alcoholic can get some help and treatment that might cure his/her habit of drinking.

Note: ‘Alcoholic’ is more often used in its adjective form to refer to people or things that are related to alcoholism, i.e. the act of drinking too much alcohol all the time, e.g. ‘alcoholic drinks’, ‘alcoholic tendencies’, ‘alcoholic symptoms’, etc.
